Only about a month or so left before he should be born. Exciting, but also starting to have nightmares about things going wrong. My wife is also doubting everything on the names we have chosen even though we had a hard time coming up with options we liked.

Since it’s getting close and my parents aren’t able to just take time off without massive advance warning, they took advantage of vacation time they had scheduled last week and drove out to see us. As part of the trip, they delivered the family cradle since we’re having the first baby in the family in over a decade (built by my 2nd great grandfather in 1924 (when he was 63) for my grandfather; every baby along my paternal line since grandpa - great uncles & aunt, uncles & aunt, cousins, siblings, and nephews - have slept in it).

On their way up the original fuel pump in their car went out and they ended up stuck in a small town in eastern Oregon for a day and a half, which saved my wife a little more stress of dealing with them. They arrived with a headlight and a fog lamp out, too (also original). Since my dad is depressingly unable to fix anything like this without ages of dawdling, I replaced both headlights and the one bad fog light for their trip home (probably should have done both fog lights, but it was more of a pain than the headlights and since you remove the entire assembly I needed to keep one in as a reference point to ensure they were as close to properly aligned as possible afterward), which took me less time to do than it took to find the parts and go to the store to get them...

The NX2000 was sort of the Fiesta ST of the early 90s. Those are some impressive headlight assemblies - real glass lenses with modern interchangeable bulbs. This car is like 100% Japanese, too.

It was good seeing my parents, but they still really stress my wife out and having them around the house was doubly-stressful for her as they kind of took over (and they’re messy, the opposite of us). They also drive me crazy, I couldn’t imagine dealing with them every day for weeks, months, and years on end anymore. The last couple days were spent getting the house somewhat back in order after the cyclone of chaos.

I miss you guys, I really don’t get a chance to be on here much anymore.

Just relax man. If she and the baby made it this far, even if someth ing happened today the odds are very good the baby would survive without much trouble. The first 4 or 5 months are the most dangerous and nerve racking. Right now my advice is to g et as much sleep and rest as you possibly can.  Be cause soon you’ll be begging for 3 consec utive hours of sleep.

My first car was a Nissan Stanza sedan GXE trim, which was top I guess for 1987. It also had the glass headlight housings with changeable bulbs. My first accident was in that car, and it broke the glass. I was to cheap to pay the $189 for a new housing and would continually break bulbs from driving in the rain. The car didn’t last much longer after teenage driving habits killed it.

It may have been better to have your folks there now instead of after the baby is born, because that’s a whole other crazy.

Enjoy your quiet now. ;-)

Parenting is great.

Odd question, but did they footprint him immediately?

It looks like he’s come a long way. I look forward to that part.

Historically, babies always liked me (last one I held was pretty cool with me), then there is this period where I just feel awkward around them, followed by better times as they get closer to school age. I dread the lack of sleep (might be a serious problem as I already have sleep problems)  and the toddler stage (when I seem to have the hardest time connecting with children).

Good luck. It’s nerve wracking, but just follow you wife’s lead. They’ve been doing this for a few hundred thousand years and are really good at it. My wife had our kids at home, so I got a very intimate look at childbirth. Absolutely amazing. Some advice my midwife gave us the night before the active birth began: this is the last time you two will ever truly be alone, cherish it. The most amazing part of becoming a parent was seeing the change in my wife. They bcome a real life Superwoman, and its awesome to watch.

Our hospital did take footprints in the delivery room - not sure if that’s typical or not. Don’t worry about a thing- it’s completely different when it’s your own. I was never that interested in babies before but now  I’m a creepy babyholic who smiles and waves at random other people’s babies.

Thanks, I’m glad to hear that it helped since I rarely hear about successes. There’s so much myth surrounding it that has propagated to the Internet , when it’s really much simpler and more straightforward than most seem to realize.

Read the book "Precious little sleep". Saved my wife and I with our first (twins).

All the best to you and your family. This post reminded me that it has been ages since I saw a 100NX (as those were known here) last time.

Oh, I’m already a creepy friend of the babies, dog s, etc. Babies have been fascinated by me forever - p robably 9/10 will reach for me, smile, giggle, and cry when I end up outside their visual range, but I have a bsolutely no clue why. My mom often handed me babies when I was younger and they’d quickly chill out for some reason . Most s upposedly- mean dogs chill out and  just want me to give them love, too.

I’m not really worried about him, more about her. My nightmare was that something happened to my wife. We worried a bit early on, but he’s pretty much sure to be healthy now.

My hope is that she’ll focus on the baby care and just get into the same sleep cycle as him. I have sleep issues and will need to do as much continuous sleep as possible...

Glad to hear it. Also don’t worry about the sleep, you’ll be used to being up all hours.
